Abstract
Suicide is a serious issue for young adults in Korea. Over the past 18 years, suicide has been first leading cause of death for 20s. The purpose of this study was to examine whether negative/positive interpretation biases and depression are sequentially mediate between cognitive flexibility and suicide behavior in 20s. To investigate mediation effect, partial mediation model and full mediation model were compared. Part B of Trail making Task was used to measure cognitive flexibility. Similarity Rating Task was performed for detect negative/positive interpretation biases. Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 depression scale and Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire - Revised were conducted to measure depression and suicidal behavior. According to the analysis, The full mediation model is confirmed as the optimal model. The full mediation model was consisted cognitive flexibility which was independent variable, suicidal behavior which was dependent variable, and negative/positive interpretation biases and depression which were mediate independent variable and dependent variable, sequentially. Indirect effect of cognitive flexibility on depression and suicidal behavior through each of negative/positive interpretation biases was significant. The result showed that the full mediation effect of the model. The Present study provides low cognitive flexibility does not directly affect suicidal behavior but indirectly affects suicidal behavior in a way that increases negative/positive interpretation bias and depression sequentially.
